  I Got It!
I got it, I got it! I got the new issue of Family Circle easy Crochet! My local Wal-mart came through for me. Just when I had resigned myself to the fact I was gonna have to wait till I made a trip into a bigger town, there she was tucked behind the knitting mags and beside the beading mags. (sshh, I took all the issues and moved them to the front next to the knitting mags). Some lucky crocheter will thank me. This is a really good issue. Lots of cool patterns in some nice yarns and AND they mention not only CrochetMe (page 9) but also Crochetville (page 10) and they give a nod to the Red Sweater Project (which I happened to mention before and to which I have sent a sweater). Very cool, indeed. Now (without sounding greedy) I just need to get my hands on the new Interweaves Crochet and I will be really happy.

My secret pal has informed me that she is going to scour the world for my gifts. Hmmm, what does that mean. Is she independently wealthy (cause if so, cash is fine) or does she have some form of super power that we are not privalged to? or does she boarder countries and hop trains like she is going to the next town? Arugh!! where are you secret pal!

My shrug has pissed me off. I mean it. I have put it away and vowed not to touch it or look at it again until the weekend (and that is totally dependent on my mood). I am serious. I have the whole thing done, from sleeve to sleeve, so do you think I could make a nice boarder/collar around it without wanting to plunge a knife through it? ha ha, no. Of course not. Of course the end is going to cause me the most problems. I put a nice ribbed looking boarder on it and thought to myself (half joking) "wow, that looks a little snug". Yeah. It was. So, I put it away. That is all I'm gonna say about that for now.

Must make squares. Have a great day. Peace (and special thoughts to those affected by Katrina).

  The Brothers Grimm
Who doesn't love a fairy tale? and to get one story with elements of about 20 fairy tales wound up in it, well...it was very cool. The brothers are brothers, they argue and don't see eye to eye. One is dominate and one sees beyond outward appearances and in the end, their love for one another comes full circle. The Grimms are grim, in that they grew up in hard and uncertain times and it is reflected in their stories and in the darkness of the movie. The stories are dark and the ambiance is dark but the characters and their relationships with each other are not. There are funny moments peppered throughout and in the end you see where all their stories came from and you want to believe in their fairy tales if for no other reason than to have and excuse to lick a frog for directions (how else are you gonna kiss one, they don't have lips).
***** five stars (not for little kids. . . 8 and older - - might give a fright to ones younger than that, my 9 year old liked it a lot).

I am almost done with the shrug, but because of work, it may take till the weekend. I still need to finish sleeve number 2 and then work a ribbed edge around it.

  A Froggin' We Will Go
Hi, ho a froggin' we will go. That was the theme song for the week it seemed, including yesterday. If I took all the hours of crocheting and mulitplied it times the frogging I would have been able to create a blanket the size of Tennessee. Instead, I have 1/2 a shrug, 1/3 of a scarf and a motif and then some of a scarf/wrap. All quite good and all going smoothly, now. To get to this point however cost me lots of sane hours and a bottle of wine. Could have been more wine, but that would have increased the frogging.

The scarf if pissing me off, however because it is curling up the sides. I'm afraid when it is over I will have a cigar roll to put around my neck. Hopfully blocking it in the end will take care of that pesky rolling. You may hear a scream if it doesn't. The shrug has taken me forever to figure out the measurements. I think I have it now. I am making it one piece, with no seams, like the knit shrugs. It will be long sleeved for the chilly football games that I get to go to. The scarf/wrap. . . well, I want to save that one for when it is done. I will be most happy with that one in the end. It is a variation of the lacy shawls that are in Vogue Knitting right now. I love the look of the lace knitting that is out there on peoples blogs! *Green with envy*

Okay, the coffee is kicking in and I am getting hungry, so have a great day crocheting and spending time with your loved ones.
Oh, later this evening, we are going to see the movie BROTHERS GRIMM (who doesn't love Matt Damon and Heath Ledger and magic and forests). I will let you know how it was.

  Oh Joy, oh joy
My yarn basket runnith over! my replacement order from Knitpicks came yesterday and I am one happy girl. I have already begun the "sweet peas" wrap for moi. It is going fabulously.

It is a lace weight yarn so it is taking some getting use to. My tension is either way to tight or loosey goosey. I really have to pay attention while I make this until I get the hang of it. Plus, as you can see it is not in a ball. This is thin stuff so it is a knot nightmare to wind up in a ball. But it is ultimately worth it cause just look at all that color in 440 yards of wool!! woohoo

Now, onto the rest of my order. As you can see from all of the colors, I must be planning something pretty big. . . those gorgeous colors are going to become scarves for Christmas. Just you wait until you see them in their completed forms. Right now they look, well, like balls of color, but later. . . Wow! I have some winding to do with them also. It will keep me out of trouble ( I think).
Now can you see why I was so upset a few posts ago about this lost yarn? Yes, I knew you would understand.

Well, I am off to crochet my little heart out until house duties pull me away. Have a great day!! Peace~ DAWN

  SwallowTail Shawl

Well, there you go. . . my SwallowTail Shawl. It started out as a regular triangle but it was getting to pointy to fast at the bottom and not wide enough at the shoulder, so. . . enter ingenious thought. Add side panels. So I did and they created little angles on either side. If I had increased each row at the bottom, it probably would look more swallowtail like, but it reminds me of it anyway. It wraps around the shoulders really nicely (like for reading or watchin movies). I like it.

I will get some pictures up one day of the squares I'm making but for now, I want to go in search of the Easy Crochet mag. from Family Circle. Fat chance of me finding it here (I'll probably have to go to a larger town). I will give it a try anyhow.

Have a great day! Peace~ DAWN

  Missing in Action
My yarn is missing in action!! Knitpicks has tracked it to my local post office--like 5 days ago and has it been delivered to me? NO! The brown yarn that they had to send as a replacement for the wrong color code arrived today, one week after the big package was sent out. Knitpicks is so awesome, though. I called and explained my dilema and they say if the yarn doesn't get here on Monday they will re-ship the whole order. Bless Them! So, I have one skein of lace weight brown wool and no playmates for it so my project is on hold.

I finished a kick ass shawl this afternoon. You will just have to take my word for it until tomorrow when I can get a picture up. It will be worth the wait. Plus, I am working on the squares for the swap. The ones I'm doing now are a little more difficult but way cool and so I want to make up 5 or 6 of them (plus one for me to keep and add to my blanket). I also finished up the Secret Pal project. She will be getting a sweet package. I almost don't wanna part with it, but that is all part of the fun. My secret pal sent me a cool ecard (they are all cool, who am I kidding) and she says she is working this weekend!! Drat! I hope she can squeeze in some time for herself.

It is so frickn' hot! man, a dip in a pool or a strole on the beach or a run through a sprinkler would be great. But, here I sit in the house full of AC and bitch. Seems like the thing to do. When it is hot you talk about the heat and when it is cold you talk about the cold and when gas prices are out of this world you wish to God you had bought an electric automobile.

  Where for art thou YARN
There was a glitch in my Knitpicks order. I came home from work last nite to a note from my son saying one of my yarn colors was wrong. Yikes! so I called and had the worst phone connection EVER!! but the gist of the conversation went something like: The 'fawn' is marked down as 'bark' so do you want fawn or bark. I want 'fawn'. Then I think she was having a problem getting it to be accepted in the computer so when I hung up she was gonna have someone come over and help her. I will be calling back this afternoon on my break to find out if it was corrected and if my order was mailed out. I WANT MY YARN! {it was really cool of them to call and let me know though--yeah! for Knitpicks}

My Secret Pal ecard-ed me again! I love seeing mail in my inbox from my Secret Pal. It is so exciting.

Today I get to order Cap and Gown for the senior in our house and a class ring for the junior. Yippie. {that was sarcasum}. Not that I don't want them to have these things -- it's gonna cost, buddy, oh yes it will -- but it means they are one step closer to being gone from me and their dad. One of my clients just sent her son off to college last Thursday and she was soooo sad and it made me sad thinking of my own boys and how close they are to doing the same thing. I won't cry yet, I won't. See what those of you with youngin's get to look forward too. You think as they get older it gets easier. WARNING: it does not and it is best that you know that now.

On that note, have a great day! Peace, DAWN

I am crocheting, I swear... it's just stuff I can't show you for fear that a certain someone may read my blog and get a peek at what is hers. So, as much as it pains me to have such a wonderful creation on my hook, you just can't know right now what it is.

I am waiting for a shippment from Knitpicks. I have ordered a bunch of yarn for scarves for Christmas presents. Plus some yarn for a sweet wrap for moi.

Sorry the blog has been a dud lately. Family and work have to come before blogging. I did download quite a bit of music onto the 'ol iPod this weekend. My favorite song at the moment (make that two songs are: Mother by Danzig and Roller Coaster of Love by the Red Hot Chili Peppers). I am wearing them out! Have a great Monday--and to my secret pal who emails me the greatest cards; THANKS!

  Rightous, Babe!

Well lookie lookie who is on the cover of my Yes! magazine this (bi) month. Yeap, it's Ani (and her friend and mentor Utah Phillips). How cool is that. I opened my mailbox and there she was starring up at me. I love Ani.

I am in the middle of making a cool purse that I actually started for the summer and had planned on it being my summer purse. Well, here we are at the end of summer and it is in the pieces stage. I guess it will be for next summer ( or I'll gift it if someone right comes along). I want to finish it but I am also in the middle of an involved project for my Secret Pal and so I have to share my time between them. It is hard to crochet for yourself and someone else, too. I don't want to be greedy, but then I want what I want, too.

Okay, got a peach cobbler in the oven (chuck full of fresh peaches from our tree) and I need to check on it cause it is smelling soooooo gooooood. Have a great day. Peace~ DAWN

  A Day Off

This is my version of the Bernat Baby Hat called Baby Toque. I didn't like the way the pattern was written (from the brim up, yuck!) so I re-vamped it to suit my way of making hats. I think it turned out just as cute and I think that the baby won't care. Love love love the way the color way swirled in candy stripe fashion around the hat. It goes: white, green, white, purple, white, blue. I didn't even have to work at that one. I am showing you this lovely creation because of a horrible thunderstorm we had on Saturday. Remember the car show I previously blogged about. Well, it didn't happen cause the rain turned into a storm and we (I say we, laughing) decided to go to Hobby Lobby after all. That is where I picked up the cotton-tots yarn for this hat. I had planned on purple for the brim, but not nowing the sex of the baby my sons said a green brim would look more neutral. So I took their advice. By the way, the hat is sitting on my salt crystal lamp.

Ahh, the storm. On the way out of our small town we saw a wreck on the interstate before we got to the on ramp (the traffic was stopped and backed up for MILES). This jeep had flipped on the slick road right at the on ramp and it looked pretty bad. We decided to go about 5 miles up to another exit and on the way saw a house fire (it had been struck by lightening) and about one block up from that a car repair business had fire trucks at it; must have had some trouble, too. Not to mention about 5 large trees in various yards that had been split by lightening and where taken down. It was a fast moving horrible storm. Well, when we got on the interstate (finally) there was only us and two other cars. No shit. For about 20 miles it was like this. That wreak had backed up traffic that long. Okay, enough of that.

I have a day off and plan on getting into some serious crochet for my secret pal. I already have some things done, but I want to make something bigger. Plus, I need to finish off about 10 more squares for the square swap. Have a great day! Peace all~ DAWN

  Long Time No Bloggie
Wow, has it been three whole days since last I blogged? Wish I had some fantastic crochet project to show you, but alas, it has been all work and no crochet for me.

Here is the loaded peach tree. Yummy! Well, I have two projects picked out for my S.P over at Crochetville. However, I have not begun them yet. I haven't crocheted much of anything lately. I did make a scarf, but it is way too long. Really, it is overly long. I may rip it and begin again.

I still need to post a picture of the striped hat; I still need to take a picture of it first. I feel utterly lazy lately. My son wants the hat, so I guess he can be the model for it. See, that is all the motivation I needed. Witness the
spiral striped hat. Although, it isn't much of a spiral. But what can you do. It was fun and quick to

make and the older one likes it plus, it is ribbed or not. You can reverse it for a different texture. I love the two color blues together. Just some left over yarn in the stash that wanted to be made into something.

Hope you all have an awesome weekend. I wanted to go to Hobby Lobby but the husband wants to put the Corvair into a local car show at 4 today and Hobby Lobby isn't opened on Sundays so it looks like I'm out of luck. {of course, it is beginning to thunder outside and cloud up so maybe we are in for some rain, hmmm, do I smell car show cancelation?}
